My boss asked me if there is any way to see a shared folder with some file from another network. When we are in an office on the same network as the server are on his laptop we can see his shared server folder with some files. But when we switch on another network he can't access that anymore because we are not on the same network as a server. So I want to ask if there is any way to see them from other networks and how to do it? I wanted to try using Windows 10 remote desktop to share fails from servers to his laptop but then i found that is ez to hack so i give up from that option. Then I thought to use VPN as an intermediary between the server and his laptop to have a safe way of sharing all fails from any network but i don't know is that a good option and how to do it because i never did that and i don't know how so any help is good. For now he was using teamviewer to "physically" go to other pc that have fails he needs. But now he asks me to find any way to see that shared folder from any network. I just started to work here after college so i want to impress them so that is why i ask u here to help if u can. Sorry for my bad eng i had help from google translate. and ty all In advance for help.

VPN is the best choice for security. Connect to your network remotely and view files as if you were on the same system. The setup process varies based on the operating system of the server.

I shared what I said, he confirmed he needs any free method since we’re already paying for TeamViewer. He wants to verify if there’s an alternative way to access files without extra costs, especially because we can already do it with TeamViewer and we need full access across all our other PCs. He’s curious about any free storage solution that could work after connecting via OpenVPN, mainly for a temporary connection between the server and his laptop. He’s unsure if such options exist or how secure they would be. He asked if there’s a safe way to find this out and if it’s worth giving up. Thanks a lot for your help!

The server runs on Windows Server with a built-in VPN Server, while Linux allows installing various VPN Server solutions.

The operating system for this server runs Windows 10, and it supports both PCs and servers.

Alternative ways to reach the shared folder over the network involve configuring ACLs (Access control lists), which relies on the specific hardware used between the two networks. A VPN might be necessary if the other network is located in a different office, though setting up ACLs makes more sense when both networks are in the same building.

We’re on the field or he’s at home, but he can’t reach the shared folder since those networks aren’t connected. That’s why we need a way to connect from other networks. I thought a VPN would be the best and safest choice. I’m just a beginner, so I wanted to check if it’s a good idea and if there are better alternatives.

You must configure ACLs to link both networks together. After establishing a connection, your supervisor can join the main network via VPN to reach the second network. Also, why are there two separate networks?

I thought the other network operator referred to an outside connection, such as home or a client's office.

When I mention another network, I mean the one he uses to connect to the internet through Wi-Fi or an Ethernet cable on his laptop.
