To speed up the PC generally, focus on upgrading key components like the RAM, storage, or graphics card. If you're working with a tight budget of $100 for a new build in December, prioritize essential upgrades that offer the biggest performance boost without overspending.

The options for improving the system are limited. HP restricts CPUs over 35W, so even a 65W model like the Pentium G860 won’t work. You can potentially move to an i5 3570T, but you won’t be able to add a GPU. Swapping the 500GB HDD for an SSD won’t significantly boost performance. The best approach is to lower settings and perform a clean installation—this is essentially the only viable solution, as upgrading further isn’t practical.

Wait till you've got the money for a new system, even a new core i system will have vastly better integrated graphics. Or search ebay or gum tree for a secondhand system with a dedicated gpu. There's usually a core 2 quad or similar out there, hell I just threw one out in hard rubbish. If your on w7, go to performance settings and adjust for best performance, turn off anything running in the system tray you don't need, run ccleaner (download)

Ah... the classic "laptop in an oversized box" PC from HP. I don't even need to look at the specs; based on that particular Pegatron/ASUS motherboard, you should promptly throw this PC away and buy a new one. OK, um, don't throw it away, but maybe sell it and upgrade? I can't even suggest using it as a boat anchor because it's so light.

You might consider adding more RAM. If you manage to locate some affordable sticks, it won’t be too far until December, so I wouldn’t invest any money unless I really need to. Right now, you could reduce the settings, defragment the hard drive, and possibly reinstall Windows.

I don't believe increasing RAM would have any impact.

Perhaps so. The options available to him are limited. Upgrading the CPU isn't an option, and improving the GPU would require replacing the power supply unit.

Honestly, any upgrade I suggest will likely just be swapped out in December. Maybe you could try installing the OS on an SSD—it would feel much faster, though it wouldn't improve gaming performance. It might still work with the new system.
