About Pagefile
Hey everyone, I'm experiencing high RAM usage both during idle time and under heavy workloads. I'm planning to test moving the page file to another drive with around 20GB space and setting it as the active page file. I'm curious—will this improve performance or actually hurt things?
It varies based on your setup. Using an SSD with a page file off can hurt performance. Investing in more RAM helps. Physical storage is slower than memory, no matter the type—especially soon. Less data paged means your system runs smoother. Note: Some systems keep certain files active even with limited RAM, so turning it off isn’t always safe. Outside Windows, if you have ample memory, skipping a page file works well. For details, check a reliable guide on Windows page files. Edited October 26, 2015 by SubTract
I own two mechanical hard drives still in use... the HDD has been working for eight years, and it's still functional. An SSD in the Philippines isn't a good investment because it costs a lot to purchase, and I already have 4GB of RAM. My system is running smoothly with only 1.3% idle usage compared to 2GB of RAM being used.
