Environmental and non-biological elements are already quite convincing at best, making it hard to distinguish them. Character models for people and animals are getting closer to realism, but I haven't encountered anything so lifelike it feels genuine. Human and animal skin textures remain far from perfect. Soon we'll see VR experiences built as intended, using real-world settings with controllers or displays only for user interfaces.
