I recently switched from Adsl to wireless with an antenna, moving from 2mb/s down to 0.2mb/s up. Performance in Ping is similar or better, though wireless loses about 20-30% of packets. I noticed this issue mainly during gaming, especially with Path of Exile where it freezes completely. Online research suggests a VPN significantly improves this, cutting packet loss from 10-20% to under 1% on servers like FrankFurt or Milan. Many wonder why I’m not experiencing the same loss while using a VPN.

Since the CIA can't monitor you anymore, that's about as plausible as it gets.

It seems the experience varies. The VPN might mask packet loss by dropping packets, but the data isn't necessarily being retransmitted. Alternatively, the loss could stem from the wireless connection itself, or the VPN might be prioritizing your traffic over other routes to the servers.
