A reasonable setup, yet it runs quite choppy!
Hey everyone, welcome! I’m new here and just wanted to share my experience. I thought I had assembled a decent gaming PC, but it’s been struggling with stuttering across most titles. Even Ori and the Will of the Wisps slowed down noticeably during intense moments. Recently, Control has been okay until it starts lagging. I’ve tried running all games at medium settings, but nothing seems to help. What’s going on? Is my GPU too powerful for what I’m expecting? Any advice would be appreciated!
Consider trying to install the same game on your NVMe storage just to check if it works again. It might point to a driver problem with your motherboard’s SATA drivers or chipset. Look for any yellow triangle in Device Manager. How much RAM do you currently have? To dig deeper, use MSI Afterburner and enable Rivatuner in game stats. Activate these settings: GPU usage, GPU temperatures, GPU VRAM usage, CPU usage (show all cores), CPU clock speed (to see if it hits turbo or slows down), RAM usage, Disk usage. These are typical areas to investigate. I’m not sure what the normal temps are for a 5700X, but 77°C seems unusually high. Another possibility is faulty PSU voltages—check Windows for any installed software that runs at startup and disable non-essential services. If all else fails, you could format the drive and start over.
I'm not aware of any specific details about Evoke's thermal behavior. It was known for poor thermal performance, so checking GPU temperatures during gameplay can help identify issues. If temps approach around 85°C, it likely points to a thermal problem that may require a DIY solution like adding a thermal pad.
