A persistent issue I've struggled to resolve over time.
Hey there, I began noticing problems with my system about two years ago (August 2021). After six weeks of trying, I just gave up on my favorite pastime because it became too much. I’m not someone who loves FPS games, but I need to share some real examples so you can understand what’s happening.
Last night I played GTA for about 90-100 frames per second. The next morning I powered off the machine and went to sleep. The following day I resumed, but my performance dropped to around 50 FPS, sometimes plummeting to 15-25 FPS with brief stutters. This pattern seems consistent across many games—whether it’s Destiny 2, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Forza Horizon 4, or even League of Legends and OL School Runescape (24-27 FPS). It’s happening in every game I play.
Some possible reasons could be a recent game update or poor optimization by developers. I’ve tried adjusting settings, reinstalling Windows, updating drivers, cleaning the BIOS, and even using different graphics cards. Nothing seems to fix it.
I’ve also looked at other people’s experiences and noticed similar issues. If you have any tips or solutions, please share them—I’d really appreciate it! Thanks for your help.
You only checked your graphics card in someone else's system! It makes more sense to test all components together after resetting the BIOS and reinstalling Windows. It seems like a CPU or motherboard issue might be the cause. You should identify which part is faulty and replace it or check if the problem is widespread and resolvable. My thought is your CPU could be the issue—try swapping parts to confirm.
For some reason swapping out the GPU wasnt an issue for my friend but when i started over the CPU he was like nah id rather skip that wich is understandable to me. I didnt want to mention this in my topic but back then ive ordered an RTX 3080 Ti wich gave me the same issue's so i replaced the CPU MOBO and RAM back then aswell for a Ryzen 9 5950X and a Asus ROG Strix x570-E . Sadly enough for some reason the same issue's as before occured to me so i decided to refund it all since i did spend 3000$ on parts wich didnt solve my issue. (The webshop who sold it to me tested it aswel after the refund and emailed me that everything was fine and they didnt experience those issues i described to them so they refunded my money). I kinda feel like trying to swap out my mobo + CPU again however i dont feel like its gonne change anything besides that ive kinda lost the confedence in myself (Took everything apart back then for 20+ times just to make sure everything was 1000000% correct and i wasnt overseeing something ) Thanks for your reply
I forgot to note that detail earlier. Appreciate your response.
Alright, I understand. In this case you've likely done everything else possible except keep testing your friend's setup. I'd try using their SSD in your own machine and see if it helps. If that doesn't work, swapping the SSD and GPU into his computer might resolve it. If the issue stays on your end, it probably points to a CPU problem.
The newest chipset drivers have been applied. CPU Idle runs between 38-42°C, CPU Load stays around 60-68°C, GPU Idle is 40-45°C with a load of 50-60°C. I've observed my GPU usage in Task Manager often at 40% and occasionally at full capacity (in games), which was higher during gaming sessions.
This appears to be an important aspect that adds depth to the situation. So far, you’ve updated everything and possibly replaced your storage media. If you want clarity, I’d like to know how you restored your operating system. Was it a complete reinstall of Windows—either from Microsoft or using Rufus—and then you manually downloaded every driver yourself from the web without any third-party tools or unnecessary software? Or did something else happen? Another likely concern is malware that might be replicating itself and preventing changes. Consider running Malwarebytes and providing a full scan so we can assess further.
I didn't mention that I tried that either. Right now I have my M.2 installed, but I swapped it out for a regular SSD and reinstalled Windows from scratch. It didn’t seem to help, so I put the M.2 back in. For reference, scroll up a bit on my earlier replies—I’ll explain what I did with the rest of my computer. Thanks for your reply.
