Hey there! So you just bought a Thread-ripper 1920x for your new gaming rig/server. It’s your temporary setup while you wait for the rest of the components. I’m curious if anyone has experience with this model or the first-gen thread ripper in general. I’ve heard some reliability claims, but at $150 USD it’s definitely worth a look.
It shows a lot of early-generation tech already. You also nailed the X399 board! For a first-gen Threadripper, it’s really disappointing. The reliability promises don’t match reality, and I wouldn’t have paid $150 for that.
I purchased an x399 motherboard refurbished for around 170 USD. It won’t replace my main gaming PC, but will serve as a secondary system for us to play together. Eventually, I plan to upgrade to a dedicated gaming rig for more serious projects and some NAS tasks. As for current issues, people with first-gen TRs might notice minor performance drops or occasional crashes, though it’s usually not a major problem.
