I am studying engineering at university and need a laptop capable of handling 3-D rendering, simulations, CAD work, some programming, and light gaming (like League of Legends). For my future hobbies, I plan to explore video editing, Photoshop, and digital design, though these aren’t urgent priorities.
My current PC handles heavy tasks in the room, but I’d want a laptop that lets me do a few basic things on campus or at home.
The software I expect includes AutoCAD, AutoDesk, Rhino 3D, RStab, Solidworks, SAP, R, Matlab, Adobe products, Microsoft Office, and games. I’m looking for beginner to intermediate versions only, avoiding advanced features.
I’d aim for a price around $2000 CAD, ideally in the mid-1000s range. A 2-in-1 capability for notes and assignments would be very useful, though it might raise the cost significantly.
