I’m checking whether a Windows 7 recovery will erase everything, including files, accounts, and passwords. If it does, I’ll need to remove all personal data before proceeding. Let me know if you’d like guidance on clearing your account info.

I wouldn't rely on selling used hard drives when important data might be inside. Remove the old drive, install a budget-friendly hybrid, and reinstall Windows. It may cost more upfront, but it could save you a lot in the long run.

The only way to guarantee your data stays safe is to destroy your hard drive, typically using a hammer.

If you have a HD and not a SSD you could always plug it right in with constant power and DOD that thing to no end. 7 Pass Wipe should be good enough. Dont think to hard into it, unless the NSA has a reason or someone is after you I bet you are selling to the average joe and they will barely will have the knowledge to be super advanced. You will be fine as long as you do some form of low level format!

The security standard requires 7 successful random writes. You might be okay with 4. I once relied on a physical hardware tool for this. If you're like me, I'd only run it a couple of times.
