Nintendo's stock has risen lately, especially in mobile. If they chose to become a PC publisher like SEGA, would there still be sufficient interest from gamers? The likelihood seems low.

It might happen, but a huge number of loyal buyers would lose any incentive to purchase their games. Nintendo can't enter publishing like Sega does, since that would end their console business.

Essentially, the main incentive for choosing a Nintendo console is the availability of exclusive games. Removing that exclusivity diminishes the appeal and keeps players coming back. Throughout history, console battles have favored those with the strongest exclusive libraries. The Wii-U struggled compared to the Wii, which thrived thanks to its unique gameplay and solid exclusive titles.

As an avid Nintendo enthusiast with multiple systems, I’d be really let down if the company shifted focus to Windows development and releases.

Releasing titles for PC might expand reach beyond console buyers who wouldn’t purchase a dedicated system. Nintendo has experimented with distinctive input methods on its recent consoles, suggesting they may need to adapt those tools for PC or restrict game selection. Either way, both paths risk lower sales, possibly failing to cover hardware losses.

I see your point. The Wii U might seem like a failure when contrasted with the Wii, but it had a solid run. Nintendo earned enough profit, even if their hopes for the console were higher. When you look at the Xbox One (a similar-gen console), its top sellers are Halo 5 (over 5 million copies) and Dead Rising 3 (about 1.9 million). Some of the Wii U’s hits include Mario Kart 8 (7.5 million) and Super Mario 3D World (4.82 million). In this generation, Microsoft appears to be the clear loser, or at least Sony stands out as the only winner. Nintendo hasn’t given up their franchises to multiple platforms; they’ve shown they can still generate strong sales despite weaker console performance.

Honestly, it wouldn't interest me much. Yet it seems it could really upset Nintendo enthusiasts and regular players alike. Probably because I was young when I first used those consoles—DS Lite, Wii—and used them often until I was around 10 or 11. By 2012 and onward, Nintendo might have forgotten what made them stand out. Their titles often lack a strong narrative, similar to many mobile games. I remember Legend of Zelda offering some story elements, but Sony really captured my imagination. /s Still, I’m not serious—I own an Xbox 360 but chose the PS4 instead. I know PC is superior, but I was tired of the games on my console and unsure when I’d upgrade to a PC. I haven’t built one yet, but once I do, my PS4 will still be useful for a while. It lets me enjoy exclusive titles, some of which are available on my PS4, and it’s a decent Blu-ray/DVD player.
