Here is honest stuff, back then AMD was really dark. If you bought a motherboard with an older chip that can be returned, I'd do it right away. You could easily find a refurbished office machine under $100 that would cool down that power-hungry and hot 8350 processor. It might also be wise to check your graphics card and power supply because they could have been the problem in this chain.
I am going to change out the graphics card and do more testing. Thanks for letting me know that the 8350 gets hot and uses too much power, so I might try lowering its clock speed. This will be a home server running a Discord bot right now, which is basically just a timer for my friends' video games.
I used a new graphics card from MSI, waited 30 seconds. I tried to shut down by pressing the power button but it wouldn't work. I reset the CMOS settings with a battery, then turned the computer on again. I forgot to plug in an HDMI cable, so everything went black after turning off and resetting the CMOS. The system didn't load properly. I gave up trying to fix this myself and closed this thread here.
Build OS started on Windows 10 but switched to Debian12 - correct. You can stop this thread anytime, but think about moving it from Systems to Open Source. Also, for things like CMOS battery or other parts, check the motherboard's User Guide/Manual for the right way to reset or replace them. Sometimes you need to put the first piece of RAM in a specific spot, usually called DIMM_A2. This rule might not always be written clearly or shown well on the picture. Just read all the small details and look really closely at the RAM installation guides.
Honestly, my 3+ fx chips got so hot that even asrock, which makes boards, kept putting fans on the VRMs lol. From their website for cooling the CPU and its parts: "For cooling the CPU and its surrounding components, please install a CPU cooler with a top-down blowing design." https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/970M Pro3/#CPU
