A comparison of the Q980 and Q1060 graphics cards.
Hello, I’m considering purchasing a gaming laptop and am having difficulty deciding which one to select. I’m open to buying a used model, provided it's in excellent condition. Therefore, should I opt for a laptop equipped with a GTX 980/i7 (6th generation) or a GTX 1060/i5 (8th generation)? Note: I’m not a dedicated enthusiast focused on high-end, graphically intensive games.
The GTX 980 outperforms the 1060…Intel processors from earlier than fourth generation are largely irrelevant, as a sixth-generation i7 will be perfectly adequate…alternatively, you could select the 1060 and an i5, considering you indicated you’re not a dedicated enthusiast playing graphically demanding titles, but the 980 build will offer improved longevity.
Their performance is largely similar, with the 1060 exhibiting minor advantages in certain games while the 980 outperforms in others—a difference that doesn’t warrant concern. However, regarding processor capabilities, the eighth-generation processors significantly surpass those of the sixth generation. If you’re considering a secondhand laptop at a favorable price, purchasing the latest model is recommended.
