Input lag remains crucial, yet drivers, updates, and other changes continue to alter its behavior when enabling or disabling FSO in game executables. I’ve learned that newer Nvidia drivers sometimes reverse the effect, making "Game Mode" behave differently than before.
From my understanding, FSO changes exclusive full screen to a borderless fullscreen window. In Windows 10, the desktop compositor uses triple buffering and VSync. This setup can cause lag because VSync only triggers when double buffering is active, not triple buffering. Triple buffering lets the GPU work faster and swaps frames immediately upon receiving the VSync signal, avoiding delays.
But I’m uncertain about the issue you’re experiencing when FSO is turned off. I recall games like Dead Space sometimes have significant input lag if VSync settings aren’t properly configured.
lol, I just spotted this FSO setting recently and didn't check its functions. I thought it would allocate more resources to the FS app. Now this might clarify some stuttering problems I encounter under specific conditions, so I'll try disabling it.
