A 10+ year-old HP model outperforms a new Dell for weeks, even with about 6.5 to 7 times slower CPU speeds on Ethernet.
I'm preparing to install a new Dell system with several upgrades: an extra 1x8GB DDR4@3200 RAM, a single SATA III SSD, and an aftermarket cooler to replace the existing unit. Once I finally order it online, my RJ45 Cat6 Ethernet cable works fine but doesn't connect to the spectrum router. I've tried numerous fixes, including adjusting settings and even testing the main cable, but nothing works. Any advice would be appreciated. Additional details: HP SFF is early-gen dual-core Intel CPU with 8GB DDR3@1333, single SATA II HDD booting on the latest Windows 10 Pro, Dell SFF is latest-gen quad-core Intel CPU with 16GB DDR4@3200 and M.2 SSD, running smoothly on the newest Windows 11 Home. Please note: I need to get this up and running quickly, ideally before a trip tomorrow when connectivity might drop unexpectedly. Edited June 7, 2023 by ayzhien
Avoid making changes to your network configuration. Keep autonegotiate and DHCP enabled. Ensure you have the most recent network drivers installed. You can download them from Dell's support page by entering your service tag (serial number) in the search field, which will provide a list of drivers for your device.
You might also consider installing a PCIe network card when all other options don't work
Consider visiting Dell's website for the latest driver updates for your network. Avoid modifying network configurations unless you're certain of the implications. Restore settings to automatic. You might also test basic fixes such as swapping cables or using a different port on the router.
Oh! I’m not sure that’s accurate—I might have adjusted most of the settings. Everything seems to be working, by the way. Just a heads-up about IPv6, always make sure to turn that feature off. You’ll need more detailed information and a clearer description of the problem... honestly, it’s hard to grasp what’s going on.
Certainly, it makes sense to avoid touching it unless you're certain of what you're doing. For regular use, it shouldn't be needed. It's also wise to note the original settings or take a screenshot so you can easily restore them if needed.
