Since core density above 4C/8T remains relatively unimportant for gaming, frequency takes the forefront. A 10600k can still achieve comparable speeds, and you might even surpass a 10900k with an upgrade. The 10900k isn't terrible, but it doesn't make much sense for specific use cases.
I use my system to assist with various tasks, provide information, and help with understanding different topics.
It doesn't really matter which chip you choose for future upgrades. Both boards won't work with chips released in 2025, and the current model is the last generation for AM4. Intel also limits each motherboard to just two generations per chip.
For future-proofing your gaming setup, go with an Intel 10700K. If you have the chance, opt for a Zen 3 chip. Avoid 9th generation Intel or Zen 2 models.
I rely on my system for nearly every task, including games. The tools I employ are: Solidworks 2020, CorelDraw Graphics Suite 2018, Vectric Aspire AutoCAD, and MS Office 2019.
Most people don’t gain much from extra core counts, it’s more about preference than necessity. Still, I’m fine with going overkill on the CPU core count, especially with a 10-core processor.
I think I’ll probably go ahead then—it’ll save me money over time too! Now I just need to locate a good Z490 priced around £250. I was planning on buying from Gigabyte but am uncertain about that now.
