To reach the 10th generation would mean upgrading my motherboard too, which would add to the expense. I'm aiming for the 11th but if a new CPU comes along it could force me to replace my current GPU as well. I might need to start from scratch with a full rebuild, even though I really want to. The prices are so high right now that I can't afford an RTX card to go with a 10th gen processor. The 9th generation isn't dead—it's just not the top choice. I've already understood from the context that he likely has a motherboard and possibly an 8400 chipset. Debating just for fun isn't useful here, including for you too. I'm suggesting going for the 9900k since missing it means you'll miss out on the best available option, especially if your board isn't budget-friendly. The 9700k tends to be more affordable, while the 9900k usually offers poor security and thermal performance compared to newer Intel models. Alternatively, consider selling your current board and CPU to acquire a 5800x with B550/10850k and Z490—this often provides the best value overall. The 5800x performs well across most tasks except gaming, where it's only slightly slower than the same RAM speeds on the other system. The 1080k is frequently cheaper as well.
