She's facing some unusual issues with her computer lately. After switching to an SSD recently, she's noticing performance drops, especially when launching games or programs—something common in systems with limited RAM. I looked into it and found that about 90% of her 8 gigabytes are being used on a blank desktop. When I checked Task Manager, the open processes didn’t match what I expected. Chrome was consuming around 100 megabytes during a short session of searching for something. I know Windows tends to use a lot of space for caching, but usually it’s around 50% on my machine. It seems this problem started after she moved her files from the HDD to the SSD.

Verify the memory setup; if it uses dual slots, one might be improperly connected. Also, Windows could still complete the installation or perform updates behind the scenes.

Windows would likely still recognize both sticks even if one wasn't fully installed. The update process often checks installation status, but a partial setup might trigger some detection attempts. I'm looking into whether the 67% mark indicated an issue.

I've had the same issue before. Disconnect the faulty component, clean it out and reinstall fresh, and it works fine. In my setup Windows shows 8GB but only 4GB is available. It might help to verify the virtual memory pagefile size settings.

I'll handle the reinstall after the update completes, thank you. The page file looks good as well.

Though it is an old thread but I want to add my reply that others can get an idea about it. Actually after a fresh install Windows 10 get busy in downloading latest updates and it takes up the memory. The issue may resolve automatically after completion of the update process.
