8700k vs 9700k
8700k vs 9700k
Hello everyone! It's been a while since I joined this community, but now I'm finally here. I have some experience with computer components, though I don't consider myself particularly technical like some of the people I've met online. Right now I own a 4790k processor, which still works fine for most tasks. However, I'm interested in upgrading to newer chipsets that offer features like M.2 support and DDR4 memory. After some research and watching tutorial videos, I'm torn between spending a lot on an i9 processor (though I'm not sure if Florida's climate will handle the cooling needs) or choosing between a 9700k and a 8700k model.
One point that still confuses me is Hyperthreading. I watched a video explaining it, but I'm not clear on how it actually improves performance in real life. The 9700k has more cores and a higher turbo frequency, while the 8700k has fewer cores but a slightly lower turbo speed and does support Hyperthreading. Since the CPUs are similar in price, should I go for the one with Hyperthreading or not? Also, since my main use is gaming and light video editing, do you think a different CPU would make a big difference? I'm not sure if it's time to switch teams just yet—maybe wait another year or two before making a decision. Any advice would be really helpful!
