Hello, I recently upgraded my system with a new CPU and an Aio cooler. Previously, I was running an i5-8400 with the default Intel air cooler, experiencing around 40°C idle and 95°C under load. I updated my motherboard's BIOS to the latest version and installed the Aio cooler in the front of my case since there was no room at the top. The cables connect to both the CPU fan and the pump, but nothing changes in temperature readings or BIOS settings regarding pump speed. I attempted to reinstall the old CPU with the new cooler to test functionality, but it only ran at 70°C during games. Then I switched back to the new i7-9700k, which also overheated significantly. While writing this, I'm currently at 90-95°C with a 10% load. I've adjusted pump speed and BIOS curves, but results remain unchanged. My motherboard is an MSI 370z Gaming Plus. I can check radiator temps without overheating, and the coolant stays below 60°C even after prolonged use. The cable entering the CPU feels warm, while the one coming out is cool. The pump draws power from a SATA port on my PSU. I've tried all standard cooling methods, including tilting and running the pump at full capacity. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I’m only thinking it’s not installed on the CPU, or maybe the pump isn’t running consistently. The hot and cold tubes seem normal, but swapping the CPUs and coolers is highlighting the problem. It sounds like either the pump is faulty or there’s a bad connection—essentially, it could be one of those two things.

I’m only thinking it’s not installed on the CPU, or maybe the pump isn’t running consistently. The hot and cold tubes seem normal, but swapping the CPUs and coolers is highlighting the problem. It sounds like either the pump is faulty or there’s a bad connection—essentially, it could be one of those two things.

I'm sure the mounting is solid, having installed it twice without any issues and everything looks fine. Might there be a concern that the pump isn't accurately detecting temperatures, which could prevent it from activating? Since I can't adjust or modify the pump controls in the BIOS (or they don't respond when changed), it's worth considering that.

Can you hear the pump operating? Wrap some paper around it to act as an ear trumpet! Make sure the pump is securely connected to the correct fan or pump header. The temperature sensor shouldn’t trigger unless the system has a setting for 0 RPM on that header.

The pump is functioning and you can hear it. It's connected to CPU_FAN 1, though it only operates at 1600 RPM consistently as shown by the BIOS. In iCUE it displays 3200 RPM.

I checked the CPU in another machine, and it functions normally at standard temperatures. The cooler also operates without issues. Could your motherboard be displaying incorrect readings? Are there any other signs of malfunction? What might be causing this?

if your board is interpreting the other cpus temperatures, it's unlikely to misread this one. download coretemp/hwinfo to check the actual temps of each cpu.
