8320E Throttling Help
I own an AMD FX 8320E CPU and an Asus M5A78L-M PLUS motherboard, but when running Prime95 the CPU drops from its normal speed to around 2.7 ghz on some cores (typically 4 at once) even without overclocking. The Windows Task Manager shows it’s using only about 90%–97% of the CPU depending on the clock. Would adjusting which fan is active make a difference? I’m considering adding a heatsink to the MOSFETs, but I’m looking for more affordable cooling options or budget-friendly sources. Additional details: my case only has one fan slot near the IO area (2 fans at idle on top), I already have a stock cooler that should be upgraded soon, and I don’t know of any BIOS APM settings that affect performance.
Despite being a 95w CPU, the board isn't built to support overclocking.
I reuse the heat sinks from the old motherboards and video cards before discarding them. I cut them up to suit my needs and applied them using Arctic 2 part heat sink epoxy.
