No one has found a mini-PC board with an 8+ core processor and Thunderbolt yet. I've looked at Intel, Zotac, Gigabyte, and Newegg but only saw models with four cores or fewer. You're aiming to set up a small business server at home for backup, needing space for office files, a web server, and an email server. You want as many cores as possible—ideally two for running personal and business VMs. Thunderbolt is essential for fast transfers, especially with large data like streaming One Piece content, and you're considering boosting networking speeds to over 10 Gbps. Right now you're leaning toward Intel's upcoming unreleased 6-core 10th gen NUCs. A thin mini-ITX board might work but could be pricier and less practical. Let me know if you'd like more options or advice!

There’s no need to rely solely on internal storage. You could likely craft something comparable at a similar cost inside a Fractal enclosure. Node 304 is mITX, supporting up to six 3.5" drives, while Node 804 is mATX, accommodating eight 3.5" drives plus four 2.5" drives. Grab a budget B-series board and an affordable R7 1700 or 2700, paired with a cheap GPU for the display, and you should be set.

None of your statements hold up. There are many NUC models with Thunderbolt, but most use dual-core 7th generation processors. My home is ideal for a backup data center. The main needs are high-speed internet and physical separation. The key distinction between NUC boards and server-grade hardware is ECC memory support—Intel NUC boards are built for continuous operation, then housed in plastic. Your idea of "real" business doesn’t add value. Even with just me and two part-time helpers, it works as long as storage is sufficient. If I had twenty employees, the difference wouldn’t change much, only requiring more space.

It’s your decision, and I’ll do my best to assist. Acknowledging I’m not an expert on NUC systems is fine—thank you for pointing that out. My confidence in other parts of this remains strong because many potential problems can arise from the suggestions you make. Are you interested in exploring some of those concerns, or are you not really concerned about what I say? It’s pointless to waste time if your thoughts are already formed. For your peace of mind, I genuinely wish everything turns out well. I’ve witnessed businesses collapse due to severe data loss after relying on what they thought was a clever IT fix. I hope that doesn’t happen to you.
