I just switched to this CPU from an i9 7900X with a 240 nZXT cooler. When I play games on Steam, the temps drop to 45 to 70 degrees. My old CPU didn’t behave like that. Why does this one always cool down so well?

The Ryzen 7000 series tends to change temperatures a lot, which is typical. Downloading games from Steam puts a significant load on the CPU during installation. These processors have a maximum temperature threshold; exceeding it causes power or clock speed limits. Maintaining temperatures around 85°C is part of their design. If you need references explaining this, just let me know.

Performing as expected. Ryzen 7000 delivers this.

It shows a lot by testing a 3090 Ti CPU setup. This chip seems to cause noticeable FPS drops in Fortnite, dropping from around 240 to 70. Upgrading was the original reason, but you're wondering if you might have made a mistake.

Sure, relax about the temps. The 7800X3D is one of the quickest gaming CPUs available, making it a great match with high-end GPUs such as the 3090Ti. Framedrops might occur for various reasons—have you turned on EXPO/XMP in the BIOS?

Refers to the i9 7900K. Ryzen processors handle heat spikes quickly due to dynamic power management across cores, unlike Intel's more consistent performance. On heavy tasks like large downloads, the 5900X reaches high temperatures—around 75-80°C at 90% usage—while the i9 stays manageable without concern until temps climb further.
