7700k + x61 kraken high temps
7700k + x61 kraken high temps
Hi!!
I've completed my build.
7700k
X61 kraken
32gb ram 3200mhz corsair
Asus rog formula IX z270
Gtx 1080
Seasonic 750w modular.
I noticed that when using Windows normally I experience temperatures around 45-50*C
and occasional spikes to 80-85*C during normal use.
All components are stock.
Are these temperatures acceptable?
Or is it okay?
When stress testing with aida64 I reach 90*C.
Thanks!
Eze!
Hi,
Those temperatures feel quite elevated to me. I just completed a similar setup and will share what I did to bring them down.
Also, I’m not a tech expert—just a regular user who’s new to this stuff.
First, something simple you can try is launching CAM and switching your Kraken to performance mode. Then, click the small settings button at the bottom where your Kraken appears and create a custom profile for your pump speed. Just set it to 100% at 30c and above.
Before I increased my pump speed, I was seeing temperatures in the mid-70s under load with a slight overclock since the Kraken’s default settings were too low to keep it quiet. At 100%, it was barely audible. Now I’m getting around 55°C at 90% load.
2) Take out the pump and processor, apply a generous layer of thermal paste. The original paste works, but I think a Grizzly or similar might help improve things. I’m not sure.
3) Remove the pump and processor and clean the 7700k thoroughly. You can buy a Rockit88 tool, use Coollabratory Liquid Ultra, and do it yourself, or send it to someone named silicon lottery—many people report good results by doing that. I cleaned mine with the rockit tool and it was straightforward.
4) The final step was adding a couple more 140mm fans and upgrading the radiator. Initially, I only had two fans on the front pushing air into the radiator from the tower’s front. Now I added two more fans on the other side to draw in more air, which helped the front fans move more efficiently. This change had the least effect on my temps compared to others, but still brought a few degrees down.
As a beginner, these were the steps I took after reading about the high temperatures of the 7700k. At the very least, increasing your pump speed to 100% makes the biggest difference—it’s really simple!
