I recently acquired a Ryzen CPU, motherboard, RAM, and an AI accelerator from a friend who was doing an upgrade. I had some extra components available, so I chose to build another system using parts from my old setup. The new machine had the following specifications: CPU: i5-7600K, cooler: H100i v2, motherboard: MSI M5 Z270, RAM: 16GB 3200MHz DDR4, GPU: GTX 960, power supply: Thermaltake TR2 600W, case: Corsair Spec Alpha. Once everything was installed and Windows was set up, I quickly realized the system was running hot. I had just applied thermal paste from Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut. Using HWMonitor, it showed idle temperatures around 50°C. This was unusual since in my previous build with an H100i pump failure, it never reached that level, and I hadn’t enabled XMP. I remembered a pump issue on the previous machine and thought it might recur. After downloading iCUE, the pump status confirmed it was functioning properly. The fans were set to push air at the front of the case, providing good ventilation. Even when all side and front panels were removed, idle temps remained high. I attempted several fixes: removing the AI accelerator, reapplying thermal paste, updating BIOS and Windows, and performing minor tweaks. The room temperature was about 23°C. I also observed that the TMPIN8 sensor in HWMonitor displayed 127°C, but now it reads 0°C, while other readings were normal. Back in my last build, this CPU ran at 4.7GHz with 1.27V and never exceeded 75°C. Anyone have any suggestions?

Verify BIOS temperature is above idle level on Windows. Install HWinfo64 to monitor temperatures. Consider re-seating the cooler—avoid touching the thermal paste. Review Power Plan settings in Windows (select Balanced).
