I’d suggest a modern RGB motherboard that fits your 6th gen i7 6700k. Look for models with solid performance and good build quality. Make sure to check compatibility with your CPU and consider brands like ASUS, MSI, or Gigabyte for stylish options.

Because the 6th generation is available only on discontinued platforms, the top choices are second-hand options.

It doesn’t make sense to proceed like this, honestly—it would be a huge waste of money to keep everything updated while stuck on the old platform with no upgrade options. You can easily find RGB lighting alternatives without needing to replace the motherboard.

For improved appearance without affecting speed, consider RGB strips, fans, and USB-connected controllers. These can be rearranged easily when upgrading the motherboard.

Sell 6700k with motherboard and ram for $300. Purchase a 3600 for $175, select b450 of your choice (marked for third gen ready) for $125, and allocate $80-90 to 16gb DDR4 3200W RGB RAM.

Avoid spending on the 1151 socket. Opt for Ryzen instead.
