Good Evening,
I often experiment with my 6700k, usually doing a small happy overclock to around 4.6 ghz at 1.3v. Previously I reached 5 ghz at 1.42v, but I wasn’t sure how high I could go without consulting the people I trust on Tom’s for guidance...
I’m not intending to keep it running nonstop at that voltage or overclocked setting, but I’m curious about the maximum voltage my chip can handle. I’d like to explore pushing it beyond 5 ghz.
Here’s what I have:
i7 6700k (4.6 Ghz OC)
Corsair H110I Extreme
Asus Hero Alpha
16 gigabit DDR3 3200 RAM
1080 Strix ROG (2126 OC)
A few SSDs
1000 watt Roswell PSU
A lot of fans
A stylish thermaltake case to match the fans...
Plus some RGB lighting for the case, especially with all the fans!

Using that nice water cooler means 1.42VCore is fine, but I wouldn't exceed it since the chip might not handle it.

intel mentions 1.5v, yet most people would say avoid going past 1.45v

Hey guys... I guess I’ll go with the chip’s max of 5.0 ghz because I don’t think I can push it much higher without risking too much voltage... Cooling seems fine, but damaging the chip would be a disaster... I believe 5 ghz is a decent speed, though I’ll keep it at 4.6 at 1.3 for better durability...

That's the voltage I'm at for 4.6GHz.

I believe it relates to a return versus investment concept. You're putting in significant effort and energy for minimal gains.
