6700K unstable at 4.4ghz
Hey Guys,
Just wanted to share that I received my new 6700k about two months ago. Sadly, I lost the lottery and it's not running smoothly at 4.6ghz on the preset settings. It's strange because when I manually overclock the CPU, it never stays stable, even though it works fine in BIOS presets. I've been following many guides that say I should be overclocking properly, but it doesn't seem to work. I was stable at 4.5ghz on the preset for the past two months, but now I get a BSOD at 4.4ghz during stress tests. I'm really puzzled—this isn't normal for a 6700k? My motherboard is a Z170 SLI XP, and many people have been able to overclock it without issues.
You must also provide additional voltage. Otherwise, it usually becomes unstable when the clock speed exceeds the turbo frequency.
You might be surprised if your processor is slowing down gradually. The situation could worsen. If you don’t need the extra speed, lowering the voltage and possibly reducing the frequency could help. This may prolong its lifespan. It seems your processor might be faulty or unstable. With overclocking and overvolting, it’s unlikely you’ll get it back.
Another idea. Is your memory being overclocked? Its impact is minor compared to CPU overclocking. If that's the case, set the RAM overclock to zero.
Another consideration. Are you boosting your memory speed? That has a minor impact versus CPU boosting. If so, lower the RAM speed to zero.
Reset the CMOS or restore settings after each overclocking attempt.
