I’ve finally secured a 5900X and connected it with an MSI MEG X570 Unify. I’m experiencing a severe whining sound during gameplay. From what I observe, the issue likely stems from the PCI interface transfer speed. The noise intensifies when running benchmark tests that demand high throughput, not just strong GPU performance. Tests with Furmark (furry object off) and Novabench generate the most interference. It’s difficult to pinpoint the exact source, but it sounds like a high-frequency white noise. I’ve turned off all fans, ruling out fan-related causes, and the pitch and loudness change depending on frame rate in the tests. I returned the board only to find the same problem persists. I’ve tested three different GPUs—GTX 1070, GTX 780, GTX 550Ti—and while the 1070 is the most noisy, all produce identical issues. I’ve adjusted the PCIe bus to Gen 3, disabled XMP settings, upgraded and downgraded BIOS versions, but nothing resolves it. I’m stuck with no clear solution and no other compatible CPUs available.
I haven't switched to a different PSU since I don't have one available. Running the machine without it caused the sound to come from elsewhere in the system, not the power supply itself. I believe the issue isn't about power delivery. It's possible to run both the CPU and GPU at full capacity without any noise, but when data moves heavily through the PCIe bus to the GPU, the noise appears. Even with low GPU usage, high data rates trigger it. Previously, coil whine problems occurred, but they were fixed frequencies that changed slightly under load. This noise is broad, resembling white noise and changing with speed. It also seems to be electromagnetic interference rather than just sound. When I recorded with my phone inside the case or near it, the noise directly entered the microphone, producing a loud, distorted clip only during active noise periods. During quiet times, the recording remains normal.
I'm facing the same problem again. I upgraded from my 4790k and Z97 to a 5950x and x570 unify. I've been using my new 3080 since November without any audible whine. Recently, with the new CPU and same GPU, I'm hearing a loud whining noise when playing games like Assassin's Creed Odyssey. Furmark and AIDA64 barely made any sound at all. It's really frustrating and it sounds like something is seriously wrong with the machine—almost like a pump is failing.
