Hey there, I just got a 5800x3d from the FB marketplace and paired it with a top-notch assassin 120 heatsink. I’m wondering if lowering the voltage is really needed to keep the temps low—maybe around 76°C—and whether it’s worth it for performance gains. From what I know, it helps reduce heat and lets the CPU run longer or faster without throttling, but I’m not sure if I’m already throttling. Thanks for your help!

You're right, the cooler doesn't really matter much if the CPU isn't throttling. A temperature around 76°C is also a decently low setting overall.

In terms of performance, it's not ideal, but it will lower power usage. You might not need the cooler fan to spin as quickly, and it offers more flexibility if you run it in a warm space during summer. Since not everyone uses air conditioning, this could be an important consideration.

That's accurate, though the variation might be hard to notice. Do you reside in the northern or southern hemisphere? If these readings match what you experience during the warm months, you're likely in a comfortable spot.

Using the curve allows it to exert more force over time, while keeping a slightly lower temperature.

I began evaluating with cinebench r23 and it exceeds 80. PBO adjustments boost the score. Likely in actual gameplay at 4K, the CPU isn't hitting full capacity or those temperatures. Still enjoyable though!
