5800x temp
Hey everyone, I just finished a build today. The 5800X was running hot—around 50-60°C at about 1.45V. I’m using the Noctua U12A cooler and an x570 dark hero motherboard that doesn’t let me adjust the CPU voltage in BIOS. My rig is RGB-heavy with six Corsair LL120 and two Strimer Plus cables. I’ve checked some Reddit threads but still can’t tell if this is normal. Any advice?
I'm currently operating at my maximum capacity, but I don't have a numerical temperature reading.
These temperatures are typical for operation, though they do exceed the expected range. It might be worth reviewing the thermal guidelines and cooling system documentation.
It looks typical for that particular chip, especially concerning temperatures. Voltage readings might be a bit questionable, though it could just be an inaccurate report. My 5800x usually stayed near 50°C with a 240mm AIO, making it the hottest among the four Zen 3 models I've observed.
The 1.45V won’t influence anything unless current flows through the CPU, which happens only during idle mode. Voltage decreases when the CPU has more demand.
he suggested doing it while idling, suggesting it's a recurring problem that's really harmful to the chip. My Ryzen idles under 1v... the 3600 model did the same out of the box, even with the latest BIOS updates—it seemed like a Windows power mode issue since newer Windows versions actually resolved it. AMD offered a functional workaround at the time (though only for those who checked r/amd), but they didn't provide a direct fix... at least not officially.
