Wait for the reviews before deciding. PPD becomes clearer if the Ryzen 5000 offers similar performance gains between 5 and 7 compared to the 3000 series. This depends on whether you’re ready to invest the extra $220. If you see value in spending it on a bigger SSD, better GPU, or more RAM, go ahead.

wait for the reviews to arrive. remember, the CPU is just one piece of a build, so claims about it being better than others aren't always true. for the Ryzen 5000, the best deals are around the 5900X and 5950X. the 5600X and 5800X offer much less value.

According to the information we've received, the Ryzen 5 5600X should suffice for the tasks mentioned.

As mentioned earlier, keep an eye on the reviews. From the leaks I saw, it seems likely, though not certain, especially for intense video editing tasks.

I hope your computer isn't slowed down by Italics Gaming. Streaming with video editing software can be quite useful, and using your graphics card for streaming helps reduce the load on the CPU. It makes sense to cut costs on the CPU and invest more in other parts of the system.

It's clear you're familiar with older hardware from four years back. Will the 5800x improve performance? Definitely. How much value matters versus raw speed is a personal question only your friend can decide. "Enough" can be surprising—people have different needs. We don't know your friend, so we can't give an opinion.

I might look at a 3700x versus 5600x at the same cost if he prioritizes additional cores. It depends on whether he focuses more on gaming or editing; using x264 would be my choice then.
