5 model 8400 paired with b360
I'm experiencing performance issues with 8400 paired with B360, 1660 Super, and an 8X1 setup. FPS drops significantly in games, especially when switching to higher settings. I used to get around 70-80 FPS, but now it's only 11-20 FPS, causing noticeable lag. Some people say it's a motherboard problem, but I can't afford a new one or CPU. Any advice on fixing this?
An additional 8GB drive would be a good upgrade. The 8GB is starting to feel limited for current games, and using just one memory card reduces performance to single-channel. Make sure you have the newest drivers installed and keep your SSD from being too full.
Ensure your RAM operates at the highest supported speed using XMP in BIOS. The default JEDEC setting (when Auto is enabled) is DDR4-2133. Running RAM slower than its rated speed can hurt performance. Check your CPU load percentage and heat level, as well as GPU usage and temperature.
You might experience high GPU utilization without actual performance gains from the CPU. For instance, with a mid-range card like the LowEnd GTX1050Ti/1650 Super, even when the GPU is fully active, RAM can limit background operations. This often results in noticeable drops—sometimes 35-50% less efficiency—especially in complex scenarios. The issue seems tied to non-dual-channel memory configurations.
