5 6600K stability testing: Prime version and AVX/AVX2 compatibility?
5 6600K stability testing: Prime version and AVX/AVX2 compatibility?
I've reviewed the CPU overclocking guide and tutorial for beginners, but I still have a few questions.
For thermal testing with prime 29.8 or higher, turn off AVX/AVX2 and use small FFT. I was able to keep temperatures below 80°C for 15 minutes.
For stability testing, it recommends running the blend test for 8 hours. Should I still disable AVX and AVX2 during this test?
You can also perform the small FFT test for 8 hours as an additional check. Do I need to disable AVX and AVX2 for this procedure? Because without it, I experience higher temperatures than during thermal testing and encounter errors right away. I think this isn't ideal, so I might need to adjust voltage or CPU ratio.
On the stock version, I don’t encounter any issues with small FFT and with AVX/AVX2 enabled.
Is it acceptable to use prime version 26.6 for stability and thermal testing with the i5 6600k?
I usually rely on OCCT, they don’t have any options to cut in or out except clicking the green button in the program. I don’t see any need to run it for over 30 minutes. It stops the test if a core reaches 85C. It also consumes about 80% of your memory or 90% of your storage, which is putting a lot of strain on it.
