Hello forum. I have a 4790k that's been overclocked to 4.7ghz across all cores using 1,265v adaptive and cache at 4.3ghz with 1,205v. It has 16gb DDR3 RAM with an XMP 2400mhz (Hyper-Beast) configuration. The ASRock Z97 Pro 3 motherboard uses RTX 3070 with underclocked settings at 1800mhz at 900ma. I'm running a case-mounted Hyper-Cloud 212 and it's cooling well, handling gaming loads between 59-72°C, reaching about 80°C during stress tests (realbench and Intel Extreme). One core stays at full speed even after around 15 minutes of heavy load like in Battlefield 2042. Even if the other cores drop slightly below 80%, they mostly stay in the 90s%. After the game ends, the core slows down. Is this normal? Could it be a problem with the case or the game causing crashes? Also, sometimes games shut down unexpectedly—does that point to the CPU or the software? I'm running at 1440p.

Your RTX 3070 is struggling because of the 4790K's limitations. It’s no surprise the cores are working hard.

Even with my main system (i7-7700k) and RX 3070, the CPU remains a major limitation. Consider upgrading your processor—this should involve a new motherboard and RAM since DDR3 is outdated.

I'm planning to keep using my current setup for a while. I'm a relaxed gamer, but you're right—it's the best path for my next upgrade.

Theres nothing wrong with it as I said im still rocking one of my old cpus and it does fine. Just dont expect too much of it in newer games that are more cpu heavy.
