I was just checking if I got a solid chip or something decent. I had my 4790k OC'd to 4.6 but haven't had the comp working for a while because I ran into a bad mem stick issue. I OC'd it about two years ago, so I don’t remember exactly what I had. I started at 1.27 vcore and 4.7 ghz, ran Aida 64 for about an hour and it worked fine. The highest temps were around 90°C, and I was curious if I could get away with lower voltage while still keeping stability to reduce the heat. I had it at 1.25 and Aida stopped working after about half an hour. It said "Aida has experienced an error and has stopped working." It also happened when I increased it to 1.255 volts—I don’t know if that was due to the overclock or something with the software. Now I have it at 1.26 volts and 4.7 ghz, ran for an hour and it seems okay. The temps went up to as high as 82°C, then stopped. Was this a good overclock for the 4790k? Also, when Aida stopped working, did that mean the overclock lacked enough voltage? I didn’t see a blue screen, the comp was still running, and Aida just stopped during the stress test. Thanks in advance.

my 4790k processor tends to overheat more than standard models, but its 4.4ghz turbo boost makes it less likely that an overclock would help.

Yeah, I understand the turbo boost, I really enjoy being able to keep it running smoothly at 4.7 so I’m always moving at full power. I don’t like seeing the frequency fluctuate like a yo-yo.
