Hello! For your needs, focusing on 3D modeling and rendering, both CPUs have their pros. The 3900X is more affordable at around 520€, while the 3950X costs about 830€—roughly a 300€ gap. Since you're looking to future-proof your setup, the extra cost of the 3950X might be justified if you expect performance gains. However, if the difference isn't significant, saving your money could make sense. It depends on how much you value those upgrades versus budget constraints.

For professionals, 3950X covers its own costs. Otherwise, it's 3900X.

It relies significantly on how efficiently your system handles increased load. Expect performance tests. Which application are we discussing? As mentioned by @Fasauceome, if this setup produces revenue, the key is recouping the 300€ through operational time.

I mostly use 3DSMax, Corona/V-Ray and ZBrush. For getting a machine to pay for itself, I work in a company—I have my own home rig where I do personal projects (not for profit), occasionally take freelance gigs, and build my portfolio. What I need from a 3950x versus a 3900x is it would keep up with me for about 1.5 to 2 more years, if that’s realistic. Of course, that’s just theory.

This V-Ray centered test provides clear insights into the distinctions among the components.

Hey, do you think the H100i cooler or a 240mm AIO would handle the CPU cooling? Probably not, I won’t upgrade soon.

I've got a unit submerged and another above water, both working well together. The U12A is more affordable than the H100i. Still, the H100i works just fine if you prefer an AIO or don't want to replace it. For consistent long sessions, a 280 or 360 would be ideal.

I don't own an ATM, but my build only accommodates a 240mm case or an air cooler. I was weighing the NH-D15 versus the Corsair H100i, but I read that a 280mm or 360mm is better for cooling the 3950. Not to mention, the main goal isn't just long hours rendering—it's about completing 2-3 hour projects daily. That means you should be using the H100i for optimal performance. If you have any 240mm AIOs you'd suggest instead of the Corsair model, let me know. I'm aiming to get the best value for my budget! Thanks!
