3900x OC Technique
I have reset all original configurations since I’m uncertain anymore. I’ve been reading extensively on three different sites. I’m looking for optimal performance, aiming for a minimum of 4.3ghz. I used to get it before Minecraft, but it seems to have been disabled at some point. At PBO with D.O.C.P., I ran Cinebench several times and saw around 1.3v at 4.05ghz to 4.1ghz. Prime95 gave me 4.05 or solid 4.0ghz at 1.28v. Which stress test offers better stability? Should I stick with PBO or try other BIOS tweaks? For your use case—streaming, recording, gaming, and occasional video rendering—I’ll need to balance those demands. I also have an Asus X570 TUF with Wi-Fi, 32GB RAM, 3200MHz, 1600FCLK, a 360 AIO, and a 3070 TI FTW3 case in a DG-87 case.
Just skip the overclocking on Ryzen. It’s not worth it. Stick with PBO, tweak voltage if necessary, and DOCP. Otherwise you’ll likely lose performance. These chips already handle single-core boosts and other optimizations, so when you manually adjust you take away the extra cores for a few. I’ve managed 4.4 GHz on my 3800x all-core, but if you leave it alone it can naturally reach 4.6 sometimes during games.
I enabled PBO and set my parameters to PPT 175, EDC 110, EDT 170. Those were ideal for performance in Cinebench with my cooler, the Scythe Fuma 2. Running the CPU at higher power gives better thermal performance, and those numbers balanced power needs with stable temps. You might want to experiment with adjustments and observe the effects on your scores. It’s helpful that the Ryzen 5000 also has Curve Optimizer, which I used to its advantage. It provides extra headroom, and even without CO, you can increase the boost potential by raising power limits.
I considered adjusting the voltage offset. It makes sense to use the curve optimizer. I'm uncertain about the settings—240 PPT/TDC and 12 on EDC seem problematic with the 3900x and EDC, so I didn't see much improvement, around 25-50 MHz. Instead of 4.0, I ended up with 4.025 to 4050 GHz. It's possible I didn't try it thoroughly enough, maybe I'm stuck.
