3900x OC
3900x OC
Hey everyone, welcome! I'm just starting out in the OC scene and recently got a 420 AIO for my 3900x. After spending a lot of time researching guides, I figured out my setup after testing and benchmarks. I managed to reach a full core of 4.3 at 1.305v. Someone mentioned that 1.3v is a good starting point for continuous loads with Zen 2, so I wanted to double-check that it's safe for long-term use. I ran several hour-long runs without any problems, and my main tasks are gaming and streaming, which keeps my CPU from getting too hot. Any tips or advice would be really helpful!
At stock, the CPU operates around 1.29v, making 1.3v feasible as long as temperatures stay under control. 4.3 looks good across all cores at that voltage, though I might try 4.15 on one chip but only 4.15 on the other. I prefer undervolting for quieter and cooler runs—used 1.1v at 4.0, now around 0.975v at 3.7. Component temps are comfortably in the 60s.
The CPU should reach 4.6ghz+ with adequate cooling at stock settings. Running all cores at 4.3 will yield lower gaming performance but better results for tasks like video editing. Prioritize RAM and FCLK adjustments. I’d save the 4.3 profile for demanding jobs, but for gaming, stick with stock plus PBO.
I own a 420 AIO and have never reached close to 4.6 even with PBO enabled. All the benchmarks I've run—both gaming and casual—show manual overclocking gives better results than the default settings, plus it unlocks PBO. What I've heard is that most 3900x units don't hit that level in-game, usually staying around 4. When I use PBO, my system runs at about 4.2 but only at 1.4x speed.
Somethings wrong then. I have a 3800x on a 360 aio running stock with an under volt and it boosts to 4550mhz, 50mhz more than advertised. Your chip should be boosting to 4.6 and maybe a little more with the cooler you have. Here's my hwinfo for the day. Average in games is 4450mhz.
Based on what I've seen, only a handful of 3900s reach over 4.3 in games. The AMD claim of 4.6 is usually seen only for a brief moment on one core during a single-core test. From all the tests I've performed, manual overclocking gives better results than stock or running PBO. My friend also uses a 3900x on a 280AIO and achieves similar clock speeds when using PBO.
