Hi everyone. I recently discovered that some motherboards can overvolt Ryzen CPUs. After checking, I found my 3900X typically runs at about 1.25V, but my CPU shows 1.488V in the CPU-Z tool. I tried setting the BIOS to manual voltage, but it didn’t let me input a specific voltage. Instead, I used an offset of - or +, and set it to -0.023125V, which aimed for roughly 1.24V. After saving, I restarted without rebooting. When I turned it back on/off twice, it attempted a restart three times before entering safe mode. Once I rebooted, I was able to access BIOS and switched back to auto-voltage, after which the system restarted normally.

Any tips or suggestions? My BIOS is in the Armoury Crate, my cooler is Corsair H150i, and temperatures seem okay but a bit high compared to other 3900X builds.

Under single core tasks and brief bursts it functions properly. This question has been raised quite often among me too. For full core operations the value will decrease to around 1.3.

This behavior has been observed for some time, dating back to the earliest systems. In short, when the CPU works harder, the voltage decreases and clock speeds follow.

Thank you for the update. I completed a Cinebench R15 run with a score of 2997, and the CPU temperature dropped to 1.24°C during testing.

The voltage offset probably failed due to excessive undervoltage. Be aware that performance may decrease even when frequency readings stay steady—this indicates ongoing instability.

Mine runs at 1.32x speed across all cores in Cinebench R15. Default settings on the Gigabyte board are used. Expected score is near 3250, but 2997 seems unusually low.

I haven't tried many things, but my best score was 3100 points. The one I did with 2997 was just to verify the voltage, if it dropped. But now that you mention needing another 150 points, it makes me think about it.

Your best result with the default configuration is 3279. At 4.3GHz it rises to 3375. Are there many background processes consuming CPU power, or is your processor overheating? The boost frequency changes based on temperature.

I adjusted the voltage to 1.3 since then I don’t get the CPU fan adjust like when it’s set to auto. It was really frustrating.
