Yes, but a BIOS update might be necessary. It depends on the motherboard model and retailer. Those that come with support for it list "AMD Ryzen 3000 Series Ready". If not, you can inquire with the seller about third-generation CPU compatibility.

Remember that the B450 chipset doesn't back Ryzen 4000 series processors using the Zen 3 design, as stated by AMD currently. This means any future upgrades would probably not be possible.

I don’t intend to switch the CPU anytime soon. I’ve been using the i5 7500 since it was released, and it’s time for an upgrade.

You made a good decision, but I’d prefer spending the additional 20 dollars on quicker RAM instead of the X version.

You can easily boost the 3600's speed to rival 3600X and use that investment for improved RAM with faster clock speeds.
