Hello, this topic has been talked about many times online, but I haven't found a definitive solution yet. I'm planning to install a 3570k soon, which I purchased used along with an ASRock Z77 motherboard for around 160 dollars. I thought it would still be a decent CPU for current games, though I won't be playing the most intense titles. Even if the CPU doesn't cause any bottlenecks with my EVGA Gtx 950 ssc, I'm considering overclocking slightly for better performance. The cooler I have is a SilentiumPC Spartan Pro 3, which isn't widely available right now, but it seems to work well without issues. My case is from the same brand, a Regnum RG1W atx mid-tower, so it should be fine even if I don't want extremely high speeds. These chips usually reach around 4Ghz at standard voltages, but I'm wondering if I could push it to run stable at 4.2 or even 4.3Ghz and keep temperatures below 75°C under load with a small voltage increase? I know chips vary so much, and you can't be sure if this one will overclock well. The only thing I remember is that the previous owner ran it at 4.0Ghz with stock voltages and the original cooler, without any issues.

Regarding my GPU, it clearly has trouble with more demanding games. I currently have a half-assed OC, reaching maximum power draw, added some core voltage adjustments, and increased the frequency by 50MHz. It's not terrible—top 1% in userbenchmark, but I don't know how reliable that is. My main concern is figuring out how to tell when a GPU OC becomes stable. I'm familiar with CPU tools, but nothing about graphics cards.

Thank you and sorry for all the unnecessary chatter!

I'm seeing a score of 4.3 with an offset of minus 0.005V from auto, and the temperatures are in the mid-60s (though they may change with cooler temps).
My GTX970 appears to be well-balanced.

What kind of cooler are you looking for?
Xigmatek achillies, so medium sized air cooling.
