It's nice to see another person take advantage of the November fire sale; prices now match what's expected considering the shortages. I frequently encounter 16GB, which is why I upgraded to 32GB. FPS games actually perform better when less than half of the RAM is utilized, especially with a dual-ranked configuration. Some titles even crashed when I ran out of RAM, and I sometimes forget to close Chrome. Overall, I wouldn't suggest 16GB for a new build unless you're on a tight budget. The small issues add up over time.

Having 32 GB can feel like a big change or almost nothing, depending on your usage. Faster RAM doesn't always bring obvious gains, but it's still relevant. I don't know how many games today require more than 16 GB. The only one I've played is mid/late-game Anno 1800, which quickly fills its 16 GB and struggles with the page file after a few hours. If you're not interested in that game, it doesn't matter much to you.

Yeah man. Christmas was already covered, and those November offers were awesome. I got a 3600XT for the price of vanilla, secured good deals on my mobo, both M.2s, and PSU. I paid full retail for the RAM plus about 20 bucks shipping from the states. My Royals were pricier than my mobo, but I went for the 5600X instead. I was hoping to settle but it came back in stock with four left, which was a relief. Should be paid off before interest starts; I probably saved around 200 bucks on the build.

Well, I suppose DDR6 isn't quite here yet. Running a PC for over four years isn't really practical.

I appreciate how you address that argument so it remains within your perspective. It seems like a small group might influence the situation, maybe even some modders. No matter what fairness or majority opinion says, there are scenarios where 32GB makes sense. A 16GB setup today could be limiting, but more RAM isn’t the only concern—people often prioritize cost over specs. Just pause and consider what truly matters and what’s realistic.
