I recently purchased a new ATX B450 Gaming X motherboard from Gigabyte, paired with an M.2 Ryzen 7 3800X and 16GB RAM. Everything appears to be functioning properly, except for the RAM. The specifications state a base speed of 3200MHz, but the BIOS shows 2400MHz and a 16GB latency. When accessing CPU-Z, the CPU reports a 1064.5MHz frequency with 15GB latency. Changing BIOS settings to 3200MHz caused a blue screen and required resetting the CMOS. I’m concerned about spending extra money on RAM that won’t actually run at the required speeds. There’s no way to adjust the voltage in BIOS, so what can I do to improve performance or meet those frequency targets?

What BIOS version are you using? Please try to set the defaults and refresh it. It could indicate a BIOS issue.

I applied the newest update as soon as I received it, and based on my understanding, a CMOS reset also sets your motherboard BIOS back to the default settings.

The Gigabyte documentation suggests you may reach a maximum of 2933 MHz without overclocking. Adjust the BIOS settings gradually until you achieve a consistent boot at that frequency.

I achieved a stable boot at 2933 and it functioned perfectly without any further adjustments. The initial attempt failed because I mistakenly set it to 2833, but changing it to 2933 resolved the issue. I’d label this as solved, though I’m still interested in hearing other experiences with 3200mhz. Thanks!

Check the chipset driver for your motherboard. The most recent version for B450 boards was published on April 7, 2020: https://www.amd.com/en/support/chipsets/...t-am4/b450
