It seems your CPU might limit performance with the RTX 3080. Consider switching to a Ryzen 5600X or 5800X for better results.
I’d start with the monitor first. I own an LG 38" 3840 X 1600 display and am heavily reliant on the GPU for modern games at 4K resolution. If you have a SOTTR, you can compare your score against my i7 8086k/2080 Ti to gauge the extra CPU power needed. With a 3080, expect around 115+ performance.
Hey there! I’m not familiar with SOTTR, but you mentioned enjoying RPGs and 3rd person games. You’re after a monitor that feels taller in-game, especially when viewing vertical scenes like castles. GPU limits in modern games refer to how much graphical power your system can handle, affecting performance and visual quality. It usually impacts whether you get smooth gameplay or better visuals. The LG 38 is a specific model—let me know if you want details on its specs!
Shadow of the Tomb Raider offers solid performance for hardware testing. The 38" LG monitor matches the aspect ratio of a 3440 X 1440 display, providing no height increase but more pixels for clearer images. GPU limits mean I’m not CPU constrained at that resolution. In SOTTR, the GPU becomes the bottleneck at 1440p. The 38" LG is my preferred choice, and I’d only upgrade to a 48" 21:9 model if needed. Currently, it’s used for video editing. The closest match is the LG 55" OLED TV I’m running now.
Absolutely, that's a classic! The 3840x1600 resolution was meant to give a bigger gaming world.
I received the CPU right away. I upgraded from that chip when the 10 series came out while using 1440p. It’s hard to think about using that card on any other platform.
Poop! I had the 5600X but canceled after seeing some videos featuring a 4670 and a 3080. I assumed I was close to a Microcenter where they had CPU/Board deals, so I planned to come eventually... Turns out I should have kept the Ryzen CPU and waited for a better board. D'oh!
