Hey everyone, I've seen low FPS in games with high RAM usage like Rust. I checked my PC and found my RAM clocked at 2134 MHz. I'm using this build: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Graymac_12...iew=LHkHzy. My BIOS seems up to date, so I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks!

No, I haven't checked the BIOS settings yet.

It's typical. Purchasing RAM above 2133 MHz allows you to xmp/overclock it to the "over speed" setting on the motherboard, and it should be supported by a compatible RAM manufacturer. Probably won't void warranty. My 2400 RAM runs at 2133, but I'm worried about the clock speed.

You buy a 2400 RAM module, but worry about meeting the manufacturer's claimed performance.

It sounds like you're comparing an 8086k running at 4GHz with RAM at 2133MHz to a Ryzen 1700 and 2133MHz setup. You're questioning whether the upgrade would have been better, noting the cost savings of the older option.

Please don't trust windows to report clock speeds correctly. Can you post a CPU-Z or HWinfo screenshot?

I'm running Linux, and I boosted the CPU to 4.3GHz. Could it be that the RAM was also overclocked without me realizing? I'm seeing high FPS on the GTX 1060's userbenchmark, and since I'm not a streamer, the speed per core matters more than the number of cores. I'm worried about overclocking too much. The NVIDIA drivers seem to cause enough system instability, so I'm considering adding more. The SSD helps balance things out.

You boosted an 8086K to a clock speed of 4.3 MHz in Linux by adjusting its settings and using appropriate tools.

I didn’t overclock or interact with the BIOS section. I just installed the operating system and when a CPU info command appeared, it showed 4.3ghz. Please don’t mock my RAM. I just addressed the question in my initial message.

It makes sense now. The Intel TurboBoost feature lets it reach up to 5 GHz under specific conditions. This is just standard performance tuning, not an overclock.
