An ISP recently installed fiber in our area and we now use their 3Gbps service, which is faster than the cable providers' 500Mbps plan. My wife and I work remotely with a big family. I’m seeking a dependable setup that’s energy efficient and quiet. We’re open to purchasing or refurbishing equipment. The key requirement is a smooth handoff from the ONT using a 10Gbps RJ45 port. Our home has cat6 cabling, and we already have wireless coverage via ceiling and wall APs. We’re trying to save costs while maintaining performance. Previously, a UDR running on the slower cable service caused frequent hangs and daily reboots, disrupting calls. I didn’t want to switch brands and had to buy another router during an RMA process, which took two weeks. I’m open to the UDM-Pro but prefer something faster than the wait time.

Pfsense offers customizable solutions—either create your own or use their pre-built devices. They come with hardware supporting 10 Gb directly out of the box, allowing both WAN and LAN to operate at 10 Gb. For additional ports beyond what’s included, you can integrate a switch.

Set up a pfSense device or purchase one from negate. The dream machine pro SE is limited to 10 GB WAN, but you’d need an SFPT+ module on the WAN port to enable it. You’d also require a switch with an SFPT+ port to preserve that throughput for your end devices.
