I now have a define r6 with space for 3x120 mm fans in the front instead of the standard 2x 140 mm fans. What would be best, would use the same fans just with the size difference and run them so they are silent? I can't stop thinking that 2x140mm vs 3x120 mm fans would be like having a 280mm and 360mm aio

It relies on how much you can tolerate noise. The 140mm fans will run more quietly compared to the 120mm models, but the 120mm ones provide better airflow.

I would choose 3x120 for improved airflow.
From a design perspective, I like each fan slot to include a fan.
