A second operating system on a different SSD won't interfere with your main or gaming OS. You can use the separate SSD for school purposes without affecting performance.

It's usually best to save any crucial information before proceeding. Make sure you know exactly which storage device or partition you're using for the second operating system, to avoid losing your primary system. Additionally, consider the purpose of having a separate OS for school—what specific needs does it serve?

To avoid confusion between files and keep background apps off, just ensure everything is organized and only the necessary apps are running during playtime.

Avoid confusing files, prefer BG apps during playback—just a rough note. You can organize folders, and most background apps can usually be turned off or paused if needed.

If you're concerned, I'd opt for the simpler path and create separate Windows accounts named "Gaming" and "Work" to keep things organized.

A straightforward approach is to create a folder for all school documents and turn off autostart for most programs so they don’t run in the background. Task manager is also available. This method would be simpler and more cost-effective than installing another OS on an SSD.

You can change the SSD to switch the operating system, which is what I'm doing now just in case I can't be trusted. But remember, switching an SSD can fail if you damage its pins. You might need to force it. I've been doing this for three years and everything still works. It keeps things separate and prevents problems. If you're looking for a smooth experience, go ahead. It seems like they're saying too much and adding unnecessary work.
