I purchased a 2600x and an Asrock B450M Pro4 a few months back. I'm checking if I can keep running at 4.2ghz continuously with a stock cooler, or if I'll need a replacement. PBO is enabled, which helps keep temperatures down, but I want extra assurance. If a cooler is necessary, could you suggest a good value option? Thanks ahead!

Consider upgrading to a better-quality cooler since regular ones are only designed for stock clocks.

Some users can push the stock cooler beyond its limits. Try adjusting the clock speed to 4.2 and check the required voltage for stability. You might not reach exactly 4.2 since it involves a full-core boost. It could be better to aim for 4 or 4.1 instead.

Check if increasing the voltage helps or if adjusting the output capacitor position could resolve the issue.

Arctic Freezer 34 eSports DUO is a solid choice for $40 to $50. You're getting more value than the price suggests. I noticed my temperature dropped by about 20 degrees. I haven't overclocked it yet, as I'm testing different video settings. My motherboard is a 2600x, and since it's also a B450, the settings should align well.

Don't anticipate a reliable overclock beyond 4.2. A stable 4.0 to 4.1 range appears typical for many Ryzen 1st Generation CPUs.

1.4v is a bit too high, especially by my standards. My usual 2600 runs at 4.1Ghz with 1.31v under full load. Probably what you should target too—no big deal about the small difference between 4.2 and 4.1Ghz. Adjusting RAM and fine-tuning the memory is much more effective there. Surprised that a 2600 can hit 4.2 with just 1.275v, which seems a bit doubtful.

I guess I was considering that or the Scythian fan 2 with another fan to reach very low temperatures, hoping to boost my RAM later on.
